April 8 - July 25, 2004 Thank you for visiting UNC Charlotte to see Jim Gary's amazing "TWENTIETH-CENTURY DINOSAURS" and his other wonderful creations! We hope you enjoy this walking tour through our campus. ABOUT JIM GARY: Jim Gary is a self-taught sculptor whose works include abstracts, three-dimensional portraits, architectural and functional pieces, as well as the celebrated collection of "Twentieth-Century Dinosaurs." The exhibit has traveled to major museums and science centers in the U. S. and abroad since 1979. Jim was honored with the first one-man show at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. Jim Gary and his work have been featured on television (including the Discovery Channel and PBS) and in magazines, newspapers and textbooks. His dinosaurs were even featured in the Steven Spielberg movie, "Howard the Duck." Jim has presented his magical creations to children throughout the U.S. at school assemblies and through tours of his home studio in Farmingdale, New Jersey. ABOUT THE DINOSAURS AND CREATURES: Jim Gary creates his art using the things that many of us think of as junk.  Old car parts, metal washers, glass and screws are transformed into extraordinary works through the gift of Jim's imagination. Considered a master of metal working, Jim creates the impression of motion from cold steel and found objects. Best of all, he infuses humor and personality into his creations. Spend just a few minutes with his road runners and dinosaurs and look at the expressions on their faces - you will find yourself naming the creatures and wanting to take them home! FOR SALE: All of Jim Gary's pieces,  including some smaller pieces that are not included in the outdoor tour, are available for sale. A price list is available from Sasha Trosch in the Belk College of Business (strosch@email.uncc.edu or 704-687-6808). T-shirts commemorating the Jim Gary exhibit have sold out. We may place another order if there is sufficient demand. Contact Sasha Trosch at 704-687-6808 or strosch@email.uncc.edu before July 10 if you are interested in a t-shirt. Prices are $10 for children's sizes and $12 for adults. SPONSORS: This exhibit would not have been possible without the support of Lowe's Motor Speedway (LMS) and its general manager, Mr. Humpy Wheeler. LMS brought the Twentieth-Century Dinosaurs to Charlotte for AutoFair, and arranged for the wonderful sculptures to be displayed at UNC Charlotte. We are grateful for their generous gift of art. The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Belk College of Business Administration at UNC Charlotte.
