1.0 SUBJECT Tamko TW-Moisture Wrap, Tamko TW-60 and M&D ULTRA
FLASH Weather-resistive Barriers. 2.0 DESCRIPTION 2.1 General: Tamko TW-Moisture Wrap, TW-60 and M&D ULTRA FLASH
are alternatives to the weather-resistive barriers specified in
Section 1402.1 of the 1997 Uniform Building Code™ (UBC);
are alternatives to the water-resistive barriers specified in
Section 1404.2 of the 2000 International Building Code ® (IBC); and are alternatives to water-resistant sheathing paper
under Section R703.2 of the 2000 International Residential
Code ® (IRC). The products qualify as Grade A weather- resistive barriers as described in UBC Standard 14-1. TW-Moisture Wrap, TW-60 and M&D ULTRA FLASH are self-adhering sheet-type membranes consisting of SBS
modified asphalt, each with an identical polymeric film surface
on the exterior face. A release film protects the product during
installation. TW-Moisture Wrap and M&D ULTRA FLASH weigh approximately 22 pounds per 100 square feet (1221 g/m 2 ), are 0.040 inch (1.02 mm) thick, and are available in 75-foot-
long (22 860 mm) rolled sheets with widths of 4, 6, 9, 12, 18,
24, 36, and 39 3 / 8 inches (102, 152, 229, 305, 457, 610, 914, and 1000 mm). TW-60 weighs approximately 30 pounds per 100 square feet (1465 g/m 2 ), is 0.060 inch (1.52 mm) thick, and is available in 75-foot-long (22 860 mm) rolled sheets with
widths of 6, 9, 12, 18, 36, and 39 3 / 8 inches (152, 229, 305, 457, 914, and 1000 mm). 2.2 Installation: Installation must comply with Section 1402.1 of the UBC ,
Section 1404.2 of the IBC, and Section R703.2 of the IRC, as
applicable, and with the manufacturer’s installation details.
Membranes shall not be installed where the UBC or IBC
requires Grade D building paper. The membranes are secured to the sheathing, and installed horizontally in lengths of 8 feet (2438 mm) or less. Horizontal
seams must be overlapped a minimum of 2 inches (51 mm).
Vertical seams must be overlapped a minimum of 6 inches
(152 mm). The sheets are installed beginning at the lowest
point, with the higher section overlapping the lower section. At rough openings for doors or windows, the membranes are installed in accordance with Tamko Roofing Products’
installation instructions. The doors and windows are installed
in accordance with the respective manufacturer’s installation
instructions and flashed in accordance with the applicable
code in such a manner as to make them weatherproof. TWM-1 Mastic is applied to all vertical and horizontal terminations in 3 / 8 - to 1 / 2 -inch (9.5 to 12.7 mm) beads, and spread firmly with a spatula. Damaged sheets must be
replaced, or repaired by cutting out the damaged area and
applying a patch of new material over the removed area. The
patch must overlap the installed membrane a minimum of 2
inches (51 mm) in all directions. 2.3 Identification: Each roll of TW-Moisture Wrap, TW-60 and M&D ULTRA
FLASH is identified with a label bearing the product name, the
production date, the company name (Tamko Roofing
Products, Inc., or M&D Building Products, Inc.) and address,
and the evaluation report number (ER-5943). Tamko TWM-1
Mastic is identified by a label on the can or tube, bearing the
product name. 3.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED Data in accordance with the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for
Weather-resistive Barriers (AC38), dated July 2000; and a
quality control manual. 4.0 FINDINGS That the Tamko TW-Moisture Wrap Above Grade Barrier
and TW-60 Sheet Waterproofing Membrane products
described in this report comply with the 1997 Uniform
Building Code™ (UBC), the 2000 International Building
Code
® (IBC), and the 2000 International Residential Code ® (IRC), subject to the following conditions: 4.1 The products are installed in accordance with this
report, the manufacturer’s instructions, and the
applicable code.
4.2 The membranes are not installed where the UBC or
IBC requires Grade D building paper.
This report is subject to re-examination in two years.
